I make most of my own baby food, and until recently it's been pretty easy because most of what DS2 ate was single ingredient. I eat tons of salads and he doesn't think to much of them (I've tried, trust me!) so i can't always feed him what I'm eating. I do grind up my food for him when I can, but I'd like to have something for him besides jarred or frozen food (which I do keep on hand for travel or when I'm short on time) for those times when I can't give him my food.
Do you have any suggestions or recipes for small batches? Thanks ahead!

My daughter also gives me a hard time being spoon fed. So I also do the chuncks of steamed veggies or cut up fruit.

Another thing is Baby's R Us has a baby food maker and you store it in the ice tray that is included. You just take out what is needed.

I made my own convenient food by pureeing veggies and freezing in an ice cube tray. I had peas, carrots and sweet potato onhand all the time, plus spinach that I mixed with silken tofu -- not sure that is recommended for babies, but my kids survived it. Besides that, my kids ate applesauce (not babyfood brand, just normal but organic), mushed up avocado, mushed banana, instant oatmeal and anything else I had around that seemed soft enough.
I think the slightly coarser texture of home-mushed food is good for a baby's developing palate. Although some babies are so texture-sensitive it might not work, most babies do fine and maybe it helps them not be picky eaters later. You can always hope!

Banana and Avocado are two of the most common first infant foods, worldwide. Rice and yogurt are up there too....all good.

You didn't say how old your son is, but really, from an early age you can give him mashed/shredded table foods. If you waited until 6 months old to start, he doesn't need watered-down purres. If you want to make special recipes, the book and website PPs mentioned are great. Otherwise, just let him have bits of whatever you've made for yourself!
Eyelids, Earlobes, Foreskins, Clitoral hoods. What do they have in common? They are all functioning skin and there's no reason to remove them.

Thanks everyone! I have a grinder than is used regularly, and he's already eating chunks and semi solids. I wasn't really looking for what to feed, but recipes for mall multi ingredient meals for him (he's already tried the basics and has his favs). We don't have a microwave so frozen can be a pain when I'm in a hurry. He usually eats what I eat except when I eat salads (he won't eat them, even mushed). I appreciate all the advice!! The website had some great jumping off points for me and I'm going to see about the book at the library next week (we're all sick right now)

Hi!
This conversation is making me so happy!
First: Another book to recommend: The Petit Appetit by Lisa Barnes. Full of info on what a babe needs when, and moves beyond your basic mashes. Some great recipes. My son is 3 and i still use this book!
Second: I am actually starting a biz making fresh frozen baby food: Good Neighbors Local Babies Food, using locally grown and organic produce.
While many of us on this site make (or made) our own baby foods, there are many others who do not. Either because they are not comfortable in a kitchen or for thinking it is too hard to do or simply because it is time consuming.
I know we are not supposed to use this site to advertise, so i will offer just this and be done:
If you or someone you know is interested, i am currenlty selling my local, organic fresh baby foods at the same cost as Gerber Brand Organics via Target: $0.28 per ounce.
If you would like more information, please contact me directly at srgorbett@inbox.com.
Thank you for your patience with my plug, and good cooking to everyone already making your own!
